In Great Britain, Pantomime or PANTO means a play with lots of physical humor, action, a story full of jokes, strung together with popular music, lots of audience participation and local references . Panto’s are usually performed at local theatres around the United Kingdom especially during the Christmas/New Year holidays. Major British soap stars all head for the local theatres and Civic Halls.

The principal boy (Ali Baba) is of course a girl, usually in fish net hose and taken on occasion to slap her thigh. The principal girl (Scherazade) usually falls in love with the principal boy and they marry at the end of the Panto. The Dame (Casablanket) played by a male in dress, big hair and lipstick. We also have the evil monster (Grand Visier) and of course, good always triumphs over evil.
